One of the challenges in addressing coverage gaps is the cost of backhaul over fibre. The Relay Base Station specifically addresses a solution to this challenge.

The core of the Relay Base Station is the state-of-the-art multicore digital signal processors (DSP) with a fully upgradeable mobile WiMAX software stack supporting the optimized relay extension of the standard. Equipped with two channels, the relay base station also acts as a backhaul towards the fixed infrastructure, thus providing CAPEX and OPEX savings.

Point-to-multipoint backhaul also enables link budget enhancement, providing better QoS to the coverage area and acting as a capacity enhancement node.

Ideal for deployment in urban canyons, metros, sports and events arenas, these base stations are lightweight and compact, and can be installed on rooftops and poles without the need for exhaustive site acquisition. In addition to CAPEX savings, the better capacity and coverage enhancement also leads to lower OPEX and increased average revenue per user (ARPU).
