EB Automotive Software Newsletter -
Issue 02/2010
June 6, 2010
Dear Subscriber,
Welcome to the 2nd edition of the EB Automotive Newsletter in 2010.
We are very happy to announce the launch of our brand new blogs. One blog features topics around ECU software development while the other covers HMI development. In our blogs we illustrate best practices and user stories and show you in what ways we can support your project. We are of course very interested in your feedback. The newsletter articles link directly to our blogs, you can easily comment on the individual features and I invite you to do so. The more interaction and feedback we get, the better.
However, not everything is related to technology and so we will also take a look into other interesting areas, you perhaps have not yet associated with EB. As our slogan says: Discover the Experience. I hope you enjoy this discovery!
Click here to visit the ECU blog or here to visit the HMI blog.
Sincerely yours,

Scalable AUTOSAR 3.1 software for the Renesas R32C Microcontroller
EB has integrated the new R32C Microcontroller Abstraction Layer (MCAL) from Renesas Technology Corp. into the AUTOSAR 3.1 basic software EB tresos AutoCore. Automobile manufacturers and suppliers will now benefit from fully integrated AUTOSAR software for the R32C microcontroller series from Renesas, which corresponds to the specification of the Manufacturer Software Initiative HIS of the German OEMs.
dSPACE and EB: From System Design to Production-Ready AUTOSAR Software for Electronic Control Units
dSPACE and EB announced further harmonization of their AUTOSAR tools. This cooperation offers developers of automotive electronic control unit (ECU) software a coordinated tool chain. Using the integrated AUTOSAR modeling and simulation environment SystemDesk, the TargetLink production ready code generator, and the EB tresos Studio configuration tool, developers can efficiently use a model-based approach to designing software, culminating in production-ready AUTOSAR ECU software. Data exchange between the tools is based on AUTOSAR XML files. By cooperating in this field, dSPACE and EB are sending out a clear signal in favor of interface standardization and tool interoperability. Developers can now benefit even more easily from the advantages of the AUTOSAR standard for automotive development projects, for example a high degree of software interchangeability and reusability.
Real time cluster emulation for FlexRay and CAN
EB announces a new version of the EB tresos Busmirror cluster emulation tool. This extends the capability of performing real time cluster emulation from FlexRay into CAN networks as well.
The cluster emulation offering is complemented by the new EB 2100 hardware interface . An open programming interface allows custom-developed software modules to be integrated into the EB tresos Busmirror or the EB 2100.
Developers can now use the same tool for both FlexRay and CAN simulations. "Real time cluster and cluster emulation are now also possible in CAN," says Florian Wandling, product manager for EB tresos at EB, explaining the extension.
EB street director navigation now includes NAVTEQ Traffic for HD Radio Systems
NAVTEQ's HD Radio format capability provides broader, faster and more comprehensive delivery of NAVTEQ's industry-leading traffic solution. The high capacity of HD Radio technology will also allow NAVTEQ to deliver up-to-the minute dynamic content to consumers when and where they need it most.
"Traffic information for obvious reasons is the most important data feed into a navigation system. This is why we have for many years provided our customers with fully integrated RDS-based traffic support including TMC and TMCpro in Europe," said Artur Seidel, Vice President of EB's Automotive Software Business in the Americas. "HD Radio technology, with its additional bandwidth and the ability to distribute additional content represents a great addition to our offering and we are glad to make HD Radio technology-based traffic support available to our customers in the automotive and consumer markets."
Convenient development of driver assistance systems
EB presents EB Assist ADTF, a modular development framework that significantly accelerates the software development process of driver assistance systems. EB Assist ADTF (Automotive Data and Time-Triggered Framework) permits the synchronous collection of relevant sensor data and bus signals (LIN, CAN, FlexRay, MOST), and can replay them in real time. That means that software functions can be evaluated and validated in near-real time. EB Assist ADTF can display results both in the vehicle and in the laboratory.
Whether distance control, lane changing assistance, or night vision support, with EB Assist ADTF, the development of driver assistance systems is render easier by testing software functions in realistic scenarios. Developers use a graphical user interface to create functions for convenience or safety applications, select alternative configurations, and easily extend them by dragging modules from the component library. The arrangement can be tested immediately with real data.
EB released EB street director version 6.0
On 17.06.2010 EB released EB street director version 6.0, their latest version of street director. The award winning software was further improved in various aspects. Among many other innovations this release highlights calculation of multiple routes. A lot of effort was also put into better handling of POIs. For example POIs enroute are now shown with their actual driving distance rather than air-line distance. EB street director can now handle extended POI information like 24h flags, and multiple POIs can be clustered and related to one large "parent" POI e.g. an airport. Many additional minor improvements make version 6.0 the most feature rich EB street director to date.
EB Automotive Day 2010
"Software as a product" was the headline under which we welcomed our guests to the Automotive Day 2010 on May 11th. This year the event took place at the Ofenwerk Nuremberg, a centre for car classics, which fitted the occasion very well. Advances in automotive electronics - Ludwigsburg
EB and Audi present reusable and modular software suite
Jarkko Sairanen (EB) and Dr. Peter Steiner (Audi) gave a speech at the "Advances in automotive electronics" congress in Ludwigsburg on June 16, 2010 about "e.solutions - a new approach to automobile infotainment". In their well-received speech Jarkko Sairanen, Executive Vice President of EB (Elektrobit) Automotive Software Business Unit, and Dr. Peter Steiner, Head of Infotainment Engineering at Audi AG, explained the architecture of the software solution: a reusable and modular software suite for infotainment applications such as navigation, speech, and phone. The major benefits are:
- Interface for interaction of the human machine interface (HMI) with application cores
- Application interaction through abstracted application interfaces
- Operating system (OS) abstraction layer to enable portability and hide the complexity of the OS
