EB Providing Manufacturing Services for World's First Satellite-Terrestrial Smartphone
Less than a year after showcasing the world's first satellite-terrestrial smartphone reference design, EB continued to make its presence known with the recently named TerreStar GENUS smartphone.
In December 2009, EB and TerreStar announced an expanded relationship in which EB will also provide turnkey product delivery services. EB has sub-contracted with leading EMS provider, Flextronics, to help provide these product delivery services. EB's relationship with Flextronics further ensures that TerreStar has an efficient supply chain and will be able to quickly and cost-effectively bring GENUS to market.
The terms of the partnership highlight EB's newly announced business model to offer complete products leveraging manufacturing partners. This service adds to EB's current offering, which pairs the Company's technology assets and advanced research and development services with third party components to engineer creative wireless ecosystems.
This innovative mobile device, which was unveiled at CTIA Wireless 2009, combines 3G terrestrial wireless capability with satellite voice and data services all in a standard smartphone size and form factor. The device will be operational throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and offshore coastal waters. It is targeted to work as an everyday 3G cellular smartphone with satellite access capability as needed.
